Show us a simple pleasure you've enjoyed recently.

No matter my mood, watching my kids is always a pleasure, especially watching them revel in pure, childhood joy.  Grace is the happiest little creature I've ever known.  Wise beyond her years and just at peace.  This is her this past November, just to watch her squeal with delight made the day for me.  Of course what you can't see is that she's squealing because she's swinging into her brother who is falling down over and over again.  She might be serene, but she's still my kid :)

Sam's second tooth fell out.  Well, actually it didn't fall out it fell in, as in down his throat.  It had been insanely loose all February vacation, he twisted and turned it but it just didn't want to come out.  Until he was at school, just like his first tooth.

I got a phone call from the nurse who told me that my panic stricken son had come in after lunch.  He was happily eating his sandwich and laughing when he felt a hole with his tongue and realized his tooth was gone.  Everyone searched all around (um, ewwww) with no luck.  So the general consensus is that he swallowed it.  After being assured that baby tooth number 2 wouldn't puncture a lung or some horrible thing, Sam was still very upset.  He figured no tooth, equals no tooth fairy, equals no moolah.

Being raised a Jehovah's Witness and having absolutely NO fun during my childhood days, I'm not familiar with the rules of pretend beings...I have to defer to my spouse for what is Canon on Santa, the Easter bunny, Fairies etc.  He assured me the tooth fairy would of course still give some cash, he assured me that I was mentally ill as well because well DUH, WE are the tooth fairy.  Anyway, in an effort to soothe my first born's fears, I did what any mother would do, I wrote him a letter. From the Tooth Fairy.  SHUT UP!!  Will this make it better or worse when he realizes we made up all these things?

Anyway...I give you...a big fat lie, but done out of love!!  Ugh...and for the record, it had cute little clip art tooth fairy pictures and teeth on it and I cut it out in the shape of a tooth and, and, and, yeah he's gonna need therapy isn't he?

Dear Sam,

I was flying around Tooth Fairy-Ville today, doing my errands, getting ready for my nightly visits, when I heard that you had lost your second tooth!!  I also heard that you swallowed it and you were afraid that would mean I wouldn’t be stopping by.

My dear boy, I know you take such good care of your teeth and I reward that no matter what, your baby tooth will be fine, lots of little boys and girls swallow their baby teeth, please don’t worry. I’ve left a reward for you too, enjoy and keep brushing!

No need to call out the search teams, I'm alive.  Well, to be fair, I'm breathing, not sure how alive I really am.  I know I've been very remiss in my blogging.  I suck, plain and simple. 

I'm in the final throws of what I like to call a minor bump in the road.  The people who live with me would call this the mother of all nervous breakdowns.  Pish...posh even.  I'm fine, ducky, despondent er ok?  I'm ok.  I'm just a complex creature with various issues shall we say, and when you combine those issues (ie: depression, anxiety, PTSD,and insomnia) with being broke, old, scared, miserable and housebound, add in two sick kids and shake, well, it's just not a pretty sight.

I've wanted to come and blog.  To have some outlet, but really I didn't think the internet would be fond of posts that began, "Today I refrained from stabbing myself in the eye with my fork at dinner and other joyful ditties."  But like I said, I'm going to pout, panic, pace and ponder for a short while longer and then I'll be back to my normal cheerfully sarcastic diatribes about nothing.

Yeah Me, go team, rah rah, oh forget it..I'll be back soon :)

It's.Going.To.Be.Okay

Even if it's not, Even if it's going to be the furthest thing from okay.  Generally that's the case, when I need to hear those words the most, is when I already know it's unequivocally going to be the polar opposite of okay.  

But somehow, hearing them, first off makes me laugh because it's just so absurd, and second I like the idea that somehow, just by hearing that phrase from someone you love, it can, in fact, make it ok, even if it's only for that second in time.  So...all together now..."It's going to be okay."

My beautiful babies.  I know it's not posed, or necessarily smiley.  But it shows the true nature of their relationship.  Sam the proud big brother, who will protect his sister no matter how much she annoys him, and how many power rangers legs she rips off.  And Gracie just at ease.  In her skin, with her brother, just in general.   That and I can't believe how much her hair has grown since then hee hee!

Happy New Year!  I for one am thrilled to say goodbye to 2007, which if I may be blunt, blew donkey balls.  And as my son keeps assuring me by screaming in my ear, "2008 WILL BE GREAT!" so really who am I to disagree?

I'm looking forward.  We're done having babies, and have moved on to the foxhole section of our parenthood.  We're very glad that we stopped at two children as it's easier to chase after, and sit on if necessary, one child each.  I kid of course, kinda.  We're happily watching our adorable, maniacal, already neurotic children grow and bond...and by bond I mean join forces against us.  But still.

2007 was a horribly hard year for our family.  Financial troubles, job woes, no job woes, things were dicey.  But through it all I think we found out what is really important, and I'm going to keep that in mind every day if it kills me (and it might).  I'm also resolving to quit the excuses.  Including any excuse to neglect my poor, long suffering blog.  I will write, because I love to write and because in keeping with the whole kumbaya family love yada yada, I find it's much better for my family if I say what I want to say here first, ya know, rather than screeching at them.

Audio: What's your favorite carol or holiday song?

Ahem, we'll being that I am the worlds most miserable human and can find the melancholy in damn near everything, then my favorite Christmas Song would have to be the most heartrending one there is, "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas".  And yes it HAS to be sung by Judy Garland.  I'm sorry but any song that says, "someday soon we all will be together...if the fates allow" is SO my favorite song.

However, for a more recent, and by recent I mean the mid 80's, I have to say that my guilty pleasure would be Dan Fogelbergs, "Same Auld Lang Syne".  It's not my fault!  My mother loved the damn song and drilled it into my head, which I in turn did to my best friend Nick who is now also tormented by it hee hee. 

I will always remember driving along in my parents horrible brown K car, in the dirty depressing slush, with my mother not so quietly sobbing to this song.  After the very last verse, "and as I turned to make my way back home...the snow, turned into rain" she croaked out, "It ALWAYS does doesn't it!!"  I chuckled at her because I was a horrible, evil teenager, but now that I'm older, and wiser and being tormented by my own spawn and blah blah blah, I understand her a bit more.  It's still painfully cheesy, but in a good, depressing, Christmas way.

As if there was even a question...My beautiful, crazy, wonderful, infuriating, lifesaving family.  Nothing else matters,  no drama, no stressful situation.  If you have your family, no matter what else is going on, you are rich beyond all means.  I love you you wackos.  I thank the universe for you everyday.

What are your predictions for the World Series?

Did I somehow never mention where I am from???  Ahem, I live smackdab in the middle of Red Sox Nation, therefore my prediction would be....The Red Sox baby! 

Because, really, what with insomnia, children who won't sleep, a spouse who gets up at 3AM for work, a new job to start on Monday AND an odd emotional response to the team my whole family adores, I just NEED to stay up till all hours for the next week and scream, scream for the home team.

Now THAT is a run on sentence to beat the freakin band.  Who is this band and why am I beating it?  Ugh, Must.Have.More.Coffee!
